Gerard Herbst
With hats pulled over their faces and collars raised around their necks, 8 men knocked on Gerard Herbst’s door in Munich, seeking a hiding place. It was 9 November, 1938, the Night of the Broken Glass, when Jewish lives all over Germany were at risk from Nazi thugs.  For the next 10 days, the group lived in his 2 room artist's studio.Click the video presentation below the picture to get the complete story. 

Mitsugi Shibata
In Shanghai in July 1942, three high-ranking Nazis met Japanese officials in Shanghai. The Germans,were keen to see the 'Final Solution' implemented by their Japanese ally and brought a proposal for exterminating the city’s large Jewish population. There suggested a round-up of all Shanghai’s Jews on the Jewish New Year and a number of options for their immediate extermination. Click here for more info:Mitsugi Shibata 

Adrian van As

Adrianus and Bertha van As spent the war years in Westerbork transit camp, where they helped save numerous Jewish lives. Officially, Adrianus was the food distribution officer and later, Camp Commander. Unofficially, both he and Bertha were members of the underground and making every effort to sabotage the transportation of Jews.
