Speaker Service
Courage to Care provides a Speaker Service. There are more and more calls on speakers to explain to the wider community just why it is that our program is so different and so important.

 Jewish Refugees in Australia
Australia was seen as a suitable place of refuge by many, but only aliens possessing 500 pounds sterling in landing money, or were dependent relatives of aliens already residing in Australia, were allowed to enter. This policy meant that few Jewish refugees arrived before 1936.

Nazi Sympathizers in Australia
A few right-wing fringe organizations were formed in Australia during the 1930's. Most important of these were the New Guard in New South Wales, under the leadership of Eric Campbell, and the Australia First movement, which adopted Nazi racism.

A Poor Record on Refugees
Following the Allies' joint announcement on December 17, 1942, of their recognition of the massacre of the Jews in Poland, the United Jewish Emergency Committee was formed in Sydney by Dr. Jona M. Machover. In Melbourne, the United Jewish Overseas Relief Fund (UJORF) was founded. In 1943 a resolution endorsed by all the Jewish communities was presented to Prime Minister John Curtin.

From Refugees to "Friendly Aliens"
The total number of Jewish refugees reaching Australia between 1933 and 1945 was 8,200.

Glossary
The following is intended to provide a frame of reference for discussion.

Nazi anti Jewish laws
Shortly after Hitler's appointment as Reich Chancellor on January 30, 1933, the Reichstag (German parliament) began to institute a series of anti-Jewish decrees.

The Danish Rescue
Ordinary Danish people actively conspired against their Nazi invaders. In 1943, large numbers, acting as a unified group, did what they could to save the lives of their Jewish citizens.Georg Duckwitz, a German diplomat, secretly informed the Danish resistance of the Nazi plans to deport Denmark’s 8,000 Jews.
