Anne Frank Story
The Diary of Anne Frank "The best birthday present"
On the 12th June 1942, Anne Frank's parents gave her a diary for her 13th birthday. Hiding with her family from the Nazi occupiers during World War II, Anne wrote in this diary until her capture in August 1944. Miep Gies ,one of the staff who kept the Franks hidden in the secret Annexe situated behind Otto Frank's office and warehouse building, found the diary after the Nazis had taken the residents. Otto, Anne's father was the only member of the Frank family to survive; Miep gave him the diary in June 1945. First published in Dutch in 1947, the diary has since been published in 55 languages, with 27 million copies sold. Plays have been written and films produced. Anne Frank's wish "to go on living ,even after my death" has been fulfilled.

They were found on odd sheets of paper, left behind by Nazis who thought them worth nothing – just pieces of paper. But the writings are prolific. Anne wanted to be a writer. |

Give
The following essay, Give, is as relevant today as it was when it was written. The young Anne offers her own moral treatise on giving, sharing, and helping our fellow human beings. Despite what was happening to her and other Nazi victims, Anne focuses on the wider community, beyond the war, beyond the house behind the stairs.
